The Legio Custodes get some reenforcements for Warhammer The Horus Heresy today with two ace new kits on the way – The Coronus Grav Carrier and the Venatari Sodality.

In this full unboxing and review we’ll be checking out the kits, seeing how they go together and seeing how they size up against the old Coronus kit!

Massive thanks to Games Workshop for sending us this over to check out on the site. If you would like to support the site then why not order your Legio Custodes goodies through our affiliate Element Games and save yourself some money too?

We’ve also filmed a full unboxing of the new sets which you can see just below or over on YouTube

That’s not all the Legio Custodes love though, as we’ve also recently reviewed the new battalion box and the Liber Custodes book!

So without further ado let’s check out the new kits!

Legio Custodes Venatari Sodality

First up we have the Venatari Sodality! These were previously a resin kit, but like with a lot of recent Horus Heresy sets they have finally come to plastic priced at £49.50 for 6!

There’s essentially 2 sets of 3 models here which can be all built with the same weapon loadout, or build as 2 lots of 3 (as I’ve done above)

For this review I wanted to get each of the loadouts built so we could see what they look like and to chat about the build experience. Each model has one “Pose” but the hold of the two different weapon options changes the profile quite a bit. This does mean if you build all the same weapon when you are going to have a couple of guys in similar poses, but thankfully the kit comes with some different head and wing options so you can make each of them look unique.

These look more like the classic profile of the resin ones than the new slender Custodes seen in the recent box, but I feel they will still look good alongside them!

The other kit in this Legio Custodes wave is the Coronus Grav-Carrier. This is the dedicated transport for the Custodes, and it’s a huge kit clocking in at £78 and is an amazingly fun build!

I’ve always loved this tank since the original resin one came out, and this is very close to an exact match to it! There’s a few minor cosmetic details – some rivets for example are in different places (probably to make them easier to model in plastic), but as you can see from the side by side shots above you’d have to look very close to spot a difference between the two of them!

The tank also has a fully detailed interior – And you can actually build it so that you can remove the entire top panel in order to get inside for painting it once you’ve painted the exterior too. The instructions don’t call this out – but simply don’t glue the “lid” of the tank, it’ll snap on and stay in place with friction with no visible join lines, which is a really nice touch!

If you’ve built the old resin one then you’ll know how much of a pain the resin flying stand was – Thankfully this plastic one uses a new plastic flying stand that slots into the base. Again this holds with friction without glue meaning you can remove it from the base for easy storage!

I feel I’m going to have to give each of my Custodes squads one of these to ride around in, and I’m already excited to paint up another!

So that is the new Legio Custodes releases up for pre order today! I’m sure we will get some more awesome kits in the future such as the Telamon dread, but that gives us a nice core to the army in plastic kits with lots of scope for expansion in the future

These kits are up for pre order today and are released Saturday 25th April
