Kravek Morne and his Iron Wars are leading a crusade from the Eye of Terror on a mission of great importance by Perturabo himself – but he’s not alone, the Mutilators have been deployed to the field of battle armed with daemon infused melee weapons
In this full review and unboxing we’ll be checking out both the Kravek Morne and Mutilator kits, seeing how they go together, painting them up and checking out their rules for games of Warhammer 40k
Massive thanks to Games Workshop for sending us these over a little early to check out on the site! If you would like to support the site then why not pick up your models through our affiliate Element Games and save yourself some money too?
We’ve also done a full unboxing video which you can see below or over on YouTube
So without further ado let’s take a look at both of the new kits
Kravek Morne
So first up we have the named Iron Warriors Character Kravek Morne! RRP £29
This is an ace looking kit, and I feel he would be just at home in a Horus Heresy army as a unique Preator as he would in games of 40k! He very much has the look of an Iron Warriors character, but I think you’d easily get away with painting him up in whatever colour scheme you want! I kind of wish I painted him up to match my Word Bearers – but I feel I might add a little contingent of Iron Warriors to the army at some point in the future anyway!
I did really enjoy experimenting with the Iron Warriors scheme here – I started with a black base coat then roughly stippled Iron Warriors silver to build up some base texture – this was then washed all over with Basciliacrum Grey before I started to stipple up again through a range of different silvers in order to get a nice beaten metal colour. Once I was happy with this (making sure to have lots of variation in metal across the miniature) I then freehanded the hazard stripes and finished off any other detail on the model.
From a rules point of view Kravek Morne is pretty awesome – he hits really hard with 7 S10 attacks with devastating wounds at AP2 and 2 damage each. He also gets a flurry of Anti vehicle 2+ attacks that also have AP 2 and 2 damage. On top of this, as long as his unit targets the closest target (which he will be in close combat) all those attacks gain an extra ap too!
On top of this he always has a marked target that he can reroll wounds against, which makes him bananas good at punching things to death!
Really nice close combat unit that pairs very well with the Mutilators.
Mutilators
And speaking of Mutilators, these things are awesome! It’s been a long time since we had the old metal (and then resin) ones, and these monsters have had a real glow up since then! RRP is £42.50
I’d have liked to have seen a little more variety in poses for these guys, as all three models are stuck to the stock poses – However all of the weapon arms are modular and can be swapped across any body giving you a little more variety if you take multiple units of them.
For these I stayed true to The Word of Lorgar and painted them to match my wider Word Bearer army, and I’m glad that I did as I think they look ace in that metallic red colour!
While there’s still a lot of trim, as on any Chaos Space Marine model, these actually felt easier to paint because of the larger armour panels on them and lack of ranged weapons obscuring details! There wasn’t any need for sub assemblies here, and it was a fun task to get them ready for the battlefield!
So what about their rules? Well first off they are absolute tanks with toughness 7, a 2+ save and 5+ inv save making them incredibly resilient.
They also can adapt to any scenario – from 6 S6 attacks with 1 damage, up to 4 S9 attacks with an impressive -3ap and damage 3 all the way up to 2 S12 AP-4 Damage D6+2 there’s a whole range of things you can chuck them against! And don’t forget if you stick Kravek Morne in the same unit you’re effectively improving their AP further too!
Quite expensive in points but I think they are worth it for the range of targets they can go after!
In summary this is a nice assortment of models, and I’m looking forward to trying them out on the battlefield
All these kits are up for pre order today and are released Saturday 18th April
