Commissar Yarrick Unboxing and Review
It’s been a long time coming, but Commissar Yarrick has a brand new model! This is actually the third one he has had, and it takes a lot of inspiration from the previous one – which is no bad thing! I do have a soft spot for the original one with the crab claw, which I’d have loved to see redone – but it does make sense his has the more traditional Ork Powerklaw again!
He’s a really quick and fun build and paint, not being made up of many parts and still looks as iconic as he always has! I based mine to match my Death Korps, and think he’ll be leading them to victory on Armageddon!
So what’s he do from a rules point of view?
Well he’s pretty ace! He can issue 2 orders to pretty much whatever he wants, Regiment, Squadron or Titanic units! On top of this he has a bank of rules he can pick from in his command phase – he can either pick an enemy unit and a friendly movement and allow the unit to either move, shoot or even charge at that unit! Alternatively he can instead issue an order to a target , but for that order to affect ALL units within 6″ this is great – as if you have a tank collumn, as long as each tank has a bit of their model within 6″ of the target (Especially if you’re ordering to a superheavy for exampe…) then a lot of your models will be getting the full effects of the order! Finally Commissar Yarrick can instead choose to reroll battleshock and leadership tests for all units within 6″ of him.
In combat he’s no slouch too, with his Bale Eye having the ability to assassinate targets, and put out some serious pain with his power Klaw!
Astra Milliatrum Armageddon Battalion
Alongside Commissar Yarrick there’s also a really good Battalion set being released that contains a couple of new tanks! This costs £160, but the Rogal Down and Cadian squad in this box would come to almost £100 themselves!
On top of this we get 2 new kits
First up is the Hippogriff AFV. This is a cheap light tank that can move-fire-move and can be taken in squadrons of two. There’s a range of weapon options here, and thankfully all of the guns are push fit on the model meaning you can switch these out to your hearts content.
It only has 7 wounds, but it still has a 3+ save and a pretty small profile, which means you can do some clever stuff with your free 6″ move after shooting to try and get it out of line of sight. I’m very tempted to pick up a couple more of these to run in my Death Korps and pop out behind bigger tanks! You get two of these in the box in the Battalion – and I do wonder if these will be 2 to a box when they get their standalone release.
The other new tank in the box is the Centaur RSV a brand new transport that looks pretty cool from a rules POV. It has firing deck 12 so they can all fire out of it, but where it really shines is the fact that it’s OC increases the more models it has inside it – meaning you can use it to harass objectives while leaving the guys inside pretty safe. I really like this tank and I’m tempted to pick up a couple myself. The new are all Cadians, but I think you could easily pop some Krieg troops in the back of it, perhaps gun crew or some of the old standing at ease resin models…
