The Ethersea comes rolling in with a whole host of new miniatures for the Idoneth Deepkin! In this review we’ll be checking out the new kits and seeing just how big that new manifestation is!
We do have a full review of the Idoneth Deepkin Battletome on the way, but due to the tricks of the Isharann it’s ended up lost in the Ethersea for now – we’ll have it up as soon as we have our hands on it!
Massive thanks to Games Workshop for sending us over the new kits to check out on the site. If you would like to support the site then why not order your Idoneth Deepkin through our affiliate Element Games and save yourself some money too!
We also have a full unboxing and review with you can watch just below or over on YouTube
So let’s take a look at the new Idoneth Deepkin kits!
Idoneth Deepkin Manifestations
Let’s start with the new centrepiece kit, the Manifestations! This is an amazing looking kit which builds up a massive manifestation for the Deepkin, complete with lashing tentacles that are on their own bases. It wasn’t too tough to build this one up – though I did end with a few annoying gaps which I’d try and fill if I was to build another one, especially as they are quite visible when finished.
The final result is well worth it though, and it really does make a great model! I was surprised at how big this thing is, sitting about as tall as a Gargant or the Krondspine Incarnate! I had to get this one painted pretty quickly for the review – but if I was doing one without a deadline I would build this in sub-assemblies and paint it in sections. There’s quite a bit of detail inside the crashing waves in the centre of the model which you could really go to town with. That said, if you do build it in one piece it’s easy enough to put some darker paint in there to hide the recessed details if you want to do one quickly. Contrast really helps here as there’s a lot of texture and it’s really easy to blend a transition of colours!
At the time of writing this I haven’t seen what it does in the Battletome yet – I’ll update the article once we have our hands on the rules!
The manifestation costs £35.50
Mathaela, Oracle of the Abyss
The first of the two new hero kits for the Idoneth Deepkin is Mathaela, Oracle of the Abyss
This is another really cool model that looks really dynamic – there’s a lot of negative space underneath her to give her the illusion of floating through the waves, and it works really well on the model!
Like with most Idoneth models, I think this one is going to be a really easy one to paint up with contrast, while still being a fun model to paint up in more traditional styles. You’ll want to make sure the pieces are cleaned properly to fit as best as they can, but this was a nice and quick one to put together.
Mathaela is £26
Ikon of the Sea / Storm
The final kit to come out today alongside the new Battletome is the Ikon of the Sea, which also builds the Ikon of the Storm.
This is another really fun and dramatic looking model, you can’t really see it in still images, but the water circles up around him like a whirlpool giving it a lot of motion! The only difference between the two builds is a head swap and the weapons – but they give it a different enough silhouette to make them each look unique! I’ll deffo be picking up another box to build up the second character.
Summary
I know a lot of people were hoping for a Kraken or something like Crab cavalry, but I’m glad the Idoneth Deepkin have had some love with a couple of new models. The Manifestation in particular is an awesome kit and I really hope it has some nice flavourful rules that fit the theme of the army!
Our Deepkin Battletome review is still travelling through the Ethersea, but we’ll be trying to get that up as soon as we have the book in our hands – hopefully today alongside this article! We can’t wait to check it out!
All the Deepkin kits are up for pre order today and are released Saturday 19th July
Games Workshop provided Sprues & Brews with free copies for review purposes.
