Yes, Christmas is rapidly approaching and with it another awesome new Christmas model from Games Workshop! Today up for pre order alongside those awesome 2023 Battleforce Boxes is Da Red Gobbo’s Surprise, the latest incarnation of our favourite green revolutionary leader!

Massive thanks to Games Workshop for sending us an early free review copy to check out on the site. In this article we’ll be taking a look at the sprues and seeing what the little fella looks like painted up!

So without further ado let’s check out this years mischievous Christmas model!

Da Red Gobbo’s Surprise is the 3rd incarnation of the figure (Well, 4th if you include the original Gorkamorka one!) and this time seems to be delivering his own special festive gift by lobbing a stick of dynamite down a chimney!

While at first I was a little disappointed by this being another take on Da Red Gobbo, I have to say when I started painting him up I fell in love with all the little details on the model such as the tiny little citadel paint pots and brushes in his sack of presents! It was fun to try and replicate the Citadel Paint logo on them even though its a tiny detail hardly anyone will notice.

For this I used a lot of the second wave of Two Thin Coats paints as there’s some great colours that work really well such as some greens that are perfect for Goblin skin and some glazes that when used over silver make for some cool effects for the baubles!

The model was really fun to paint up and makes for a great change of pace if you are looking for something to get the hobby juices flowing again! I’m planning on sticking him into a bauble and putting him on the Christmas tree this year!
