Combined Army Next Wave Unboxing & Review
The latest edition of Infinity has had some awesome releases for the two factions in the new starter box, but now its the turn for the Combined Army to get some love with a brand new Sectorial surprise revealed recently! I’ve had the box for just over a week and managed to get them painted up – so in this post we’ll be checking out what they look like in the flesh!
First up we have the Next Wave Action Pack. If you’ve not played Infinity before, Action packs are the best way of getting a tabletop ready force for infinity – usually containing around 10 models from a number of different roles, this gives you a nice core for an army across a variety of units.
These are all multi part metal models (Except for the Steeljaw which is resin) and come in a lot of parts, so make sure to take your time when building them. Mine went together with patience, but if you find parts are not sticking with super glue to make sure you clean the parts to make sure all the mold release agent is removed. The infantry sized models have around 6 pieces each, so just take your time and try not to rush them, giving the assemblies enough time to dry before moving on. There’s no instructions in the box, but all of the parts for each model are sealed in a separate bag, meaning there’s no hunting for parts or trying to figure out which is which. Just make sure you properly remove any flash or gates and you’ll be fine! So let’s take a look at the finished models
I’ve tried to copy the box art here for the Next Wave as I thought it looked really striking with the contrasting red and white. Infinity has always had a really nice anime and cyberpunk inspired aesthetic, and there echos of Ghost in the Shell and Infinity here with organic muscle like undersuits and slick white armour panels. There’s also a really nice mix of models such as the robotic Ironsides and sinister looking heavily armoured Raindancers contrasting with the human Harbingers. Stars of the show are the jump-pack equipped Cliff Jumper and robotic Dinosaur Tekdraken Steeljaws. There’s also a named character in the box in the form of Pandora armed with her Viral Pistol
I’m excited to see what follows up this box, as I’m already excited to paint up more of them!
The Action pack has an RRP of €100 and is up for pre order now
The most exciting model in this release however is the awesome Juggernauts Armored Assault Brigade, which I assume is the TAG equivariant for Next Wave (At the time of writing I’ve not got access to any of the rules material yet – we’ll be checking that out in more detail once we have it)
This is probably my favourite Infinity model I’ve ever painted and it’s quite a hefty kit! Case in resin it goes together really nicely and had very minimal cleanup to do before assembly. I built mine as a single assembly, but if you wanted to make sure that you can get to all the detail you may want to do it in 3 sub assemblies – the rider, the base and the creature itself.
The model is impressively large, towering over a basic infantry and hanging over the included base. It’s also got a really interesting style to it with a nice mix of textures – again to me reminding me of things such as Evangelion – underneath all the tech and armour plates you can make out organic elements, giving this a nice mix of technology and life.
This one costs €55 and like with the Action pack is currently up for pre order. I hope that we see some more different loadouts for these in the future, as I’d love to be able to field a few different varieties.
The final model we’re having a look at today for the range is the Glyph Warcor. This one isn’t available to purchase by itself, and instead is a free pre-order exclusive if you order both of the other two sets during the pre order preiod.
Again, like with the other models in this release he is gorgeous and again has a very different style to the other ones. I really like the variety of units you have here, while still having some design nods that tie them all together. If you are tempted to get a Next Wave force I’d deffo say its worth pre ordering the bundle to get hold of this guy too! The pre order period is up until the 10th November, so there’s still lots of time to get hold of him too!
It’s been a while since I’ve painted some new Infinity, but these are cracking models and I already cant wait to paint up some more!
The Infinity Combined Army Next Wave are up for pre order now! Massive thanks to Corvus Belli for sending us over samples prior to release to check out on the site! We’ll dig into the rules side of things as soon as we know what they do!
