Rivals of the Mirrored City is up for preorder right now! Why not preorder through one of our Element Games affiliate links and help us out, whilst saving some cash vs RRP too!
If you love Warhammer Underworlds, then today is a big day, as not only do we have Zondara’s Gravebreakers and the Rimelocked Relics Rivals Deck, we also have Rivals of the Mirrored City, a brand new box bringing back some classic warbands coupled with brand new cards, to dominate the boards of Underworld!
Our thanks to Games Workshop for sending us this box to unbox and review!
Fancy sitting back and watch the unboxing? Then go ahead and watch the below, as I go through the entire contents and every card from every deck.
Who Is In Rivals of the Mirrored City?
So, which warbands are included within this box?
We’ve got Zarbag’s Gitzs, Mollog’s Mob, Thorns of Briar Queen and Spiteclaw’s Swarm. These have been unavailable for sometime, despite being awesome models, but now they are available within this new box.
Each sprues is individually coloured, as per the original release.

As with all Underworlds minis, they are easy to build kits and require no glue.
Now, Warhammer Underworlds has moved on a fair bit since the release of these minis. We’ve had new abilities and keywords turn up throughout the seasons of the game. To counter this, the characters all have brand new character cards.
Not only this, but each warband in this box includes its own unique Rivals deck. Suddenly, the old timers are back in the big time!
Let us check out each warband.
Zarbag’s Gitz
Let’s check out the character cards first:

I could be wrong, but I think the artwork has been updated on these cards, as well as the other character cards (feel free to roll your eyes at me if I am wrong!).
The deck looks really fun to play, with straightforward objectives and plenty of movement shenanigans!
Mollog’s Mob
Yes! He’s back! The main man, erm…squig. Yes, Bat Squig is back!
And oh yeah…Mollog too!

Such a bonkers set of minis, the only warband with a mini that has a movement value of zero.
The deck is full of fun cards. It’s an interesting deck, and is a bit of a different animal compared to some of the more traditional warbands, as you are relying on Mollog to do a lot of the heavy lifting.
Thorns of the Briar Queen
The spooky spooky ghosts, led by the Briar Queen, are back as well, unleashing a wave of terror on the boards (literally, thanks to the warband ability!).

It’s very quickly apparent that the Rivals Deck that comes with this warband is very objective focus, with again some extra movement stashed away within the deck to help you move your minis on to those objectives.
Spiteclaw’s Swarm
The first warband I really got into when I started playing Warhammer Underworlds, as I was (and very much still am) a big fan of the Skaven. I still use my painted Spiteclaw as a Clawlord in my games of Age of Sigmar…

Their are some very VERY cool cards within this deck, from sneaky ploys to fantastic upgrades. I think this is my favourite deck of the bunch, as it just feels so Skaven! Again, some super-straightforward objectives to score.
Summary
I’ve been a little critical of Warhammer Underworlds in the past few releases I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. I’ve felt that they are getting through seasons far too quickly. Blink and theirs a new starter box on the shelf.
However, I would be happy to see more of this, bringing some of the older warbands back with shiny, up-to-date cards. Each deck has a different playstyle and all look super fun to play.
With the character cards being updated too, I think we’ll see some of the older warbands get more play with some of the standalone Rivals decks, such as the Rimelocked Relics one that is also up for preorder today.
Our thanks again to Games Workshop for sending us a copy to unbox.
