Stormbringer Issues 55 to 58 | Hachette Partworks Age of Sigmar Magazine Series

Like a bolt of lightning…another supply drop of Stormbringer magazines has arrived at S&B HQ!

In this batch we will be taking a look at issues 55 through to 58.

What is Stormbringer?

Stormbringer is a magazine series from Hachette Partworks and features content and models from Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Each issue is priced at £9.99.

If you’d like to check out what you get through the entire series of magazines in one article, as well as the original cost breakdown (bearing in mind the price recently went from £8.99 to £9.99) then make sure you check out Matt’s article right here.

I think it is about time we got stuck in to the issues!

Issue 55

Includes: Domicile Shell (Scenery Piece)
Value: Not currently available outside of starter sets. Shall we say, £20 based on it’s size? A very rough saving of about £10.

Magazine Contents:

Let’s take a look at the scenery piece first before we check out the contents of the magazine. It’s a really nice part of a building, with lots of little details, with tools and timber beams showcasing the semi-assembled state of the building.

Right, on to the magazine. It opens by introducing the most famous twin brothers this side of the realms, Tyrion and Teclis. We then move on to a bit of lore focusing on Chaos filled landscapes, told in a narrative-written way.

It then moves on to a little background on the building work of the Dawnbringer Crusades, and explains exactly what the scenery piece you get with this magazine is. You can then roll on 2 charts to give a little background and narrative to your scenery piece, which is really fun (and includes results such as this building is home to a Lord-Imperatant).

Speaking of charts, the issue then moves on to a comprehensive Kharadron Overlords name generator (I love me a name generator to be honest), and even includes a chart for creating Unit Titles.

As always, we then have a detailed guide on how to assemble the included model with the magazine, which again in this case is the Domicile Shell, as well as a painting guide on getting yours battle ready using the paints previously collected.

We then get some Sylvaneth tactics for the Tree-Revenants and Spite-Revenants, giving you tips on how to use them on the battlefield, and points out their weaknesses.

To wrap up this issue with have Battleplan 5 for the current battle pack.

Issue 56

Includes: Thundrik’s Profiteers
Value: Again, not currently available, however Underworld warbands tend to be priced at £26, so a saving of £16.01!

Magazine Contents:

You get a really nice set of minis with this issue. Thundrik’s Profiteers was originally a Warhammer Underworlds warband, however they also have a warscroll so you can play them in full games of Age of Sigmar, which actually is included later in the issue, along with a more detailed explanation of how the scroll’s unique abilities work.

Anyway, we are getting ahead of ourselves! The issue kicks off with explaining the Kharadron Code, which is basically a code of conduct document for the Overlords, which they take very seriously. In the game this represents a number of special rules.

We then move on to some narrative flavour for your included Profiteers, with a couple of charts you can either roll on or pick the lore/narrative that you like. This then moves on to a fully detailed assembly guide, as well as instructions on how to paint them, including the sculpted bases.

After speaking the previously mentioned warscrolls we then have some more tactics, this time for the Gloomspite as the issue offers advice for the Loonsmasha Fanatics and Boingrot Bounderz.

And to wrap things up, we have the 6th battleplan for the current battlepack.

Issue 57

Includes: Squig Herd
Value: Warhammer.com have these minis priced at £32.50, so a very tasty saving of £22.51.

Magazine Contents:

SQUIGS! Yup, this issue includes your everyday rabble of Squigs. Great models, so great in fact that if I ever commited to a Gloomspite army it would be rammed full of them. But anyway…I digress…

This issue opens up with a faction focus on the Flesh-Eater Courts, a Death army only briefly covered thus far in the magazine series. I do like that, even though you won’t be getting any Flesh Eater models, the series still covers the faction.

We then have some fun filled pages of narrative content for your included Squig Herd, including traits for your Herders and Squigs. Some more narrative then follows, as you can create some lore for your characters as Champions of Shyish!

As always, we then have comprehensive instructions for how to build your included models, and how to paint them. This is then followed by the full warscroll for the unit so that you can use your Squigs in games of Sigmar. This also includes a detailed breakdown on the warscroll abilities.

Finally we have battleplan 7, giving you fresh game setup to play.

Well…I say finally…we do have an additional pullout which is really good. Its all about Core tactics, giving lots of tips and advice on the Core mechanisms, such as combat and movement, whilst also speaking about unit types.

Issue 58

Includes: Slaanesh Grey and Teclis Blue paints
Value: Each pot has an RRP of £2.75, giving us a total of £5.50, so no saving here based on the included paint, however this issue also includes a nice battlemat.

Magazine Contents:

We’ve got a paint issue to finish off, with two very different colours. The issue also comes with a brand new battlemat too.

Moving on to the final issue in this batch, it kicks off with a really cool story, told from the prospective of a fisherman who witnesses an Idoneth Deepkin raid. This leads in to some more lore behind the realm of Shyish.

We then head in to some narrative flavour, this time for your Gloomspite Gitz units. You’ve got 3 x random charts for some fun background lore.

No assembly instructions here, so instead the magazine gives us a new painting technique, Relayering. These few pages go into great detail on how layering paint is achieved, with some great visual tips.

Armed with two brand new paints, the magazine then goes over all the models you’ve had thus far, and shows you where to apply your new paints.

With quite a Stormcast models built and painted, it’s time to go through the Battle Trait for the Stormcast Eternals. Legends of the Living Tempest explains the rules behind deep striking your Stormcast Eternals on to the battlefield. Then of course the issue talks about the Kruleboyz trait, Dirty Tricks! For those who haven’t played as the Kruleboyz thus far, Dirty Tricks has you picking one of four abilities to use at the start of the game.

Shoot the Messenger is the 8th Battleplan for the ongoing Battlepack.

And that is a wrap on the latest batch of issues! I’m really looking forward to the next delivery, and we’ll be back once they have landed!
