The new Cities of Sigmar battletome and Launch Box exploded onto the scene a few months ago (You can check out our full review here) and everyone has been eagerly anticipating the rest of the range being released! But finally the Dawnbrigner Crusades march to war with the entire range of kits up for pre order today! In this post we’ll be taking a look at the kits and seeing how they all go together and what a few of them look like painted up.

Massive thanks to games Workshop for sending us free early review copies of the kits. If you would like to support the site then why not order your Cities of Sigmar goodies through our affiliate Element Games and save yourself 20% too?

We’ve also recorded a full unboxing video and a review of the Cities of Sigmar Battletome, both of which you can see below or over on YouTube

So let’s check out the kits that are up for pre order today!

First up we have the Ironweld Great Cannon, and awesome kit with quite a bit of customisation available. Certainly enough to ensure that if you have multiple cannons within your army they will look different

This was a little fiddly to stick together, and you may find it easier to keep all the various bits separate, but in the end I just decided to stick it all together for ease!

The next one took me by surprise a little, as out of all the models in the range I like this one the most – it might not be as big as some of the other kits, but it is an absolutely gorgeous model that 100% deserves your attention!

It’s a really easy to build kit, but like with the other kits in this wave it has a load of options to customise the rider, and I can very well see a lot of these appearing as Golden Daemon entries next year. Sometimes a simple and effective model is all that you need!

At the far other end of the scale we have something that deffo isnt simple, and that’s Pontifex Zenestra. This mad as a box of frogs model represents the faith leader of the great wheel being carried into battle and its just so wacky and “age of sigmar” that I love it!

There’s some really nice details on this one, such as the previous leader being carried around on the back of the palanquin, to the cute baby dragon chained to the side of it. A word of warning though, you will want to build this in a load of sub assemblies. For this one I left the two bearers, the palanquin, Zenestra and the corpse all seperate and attached them to corks for painting – if you build it in one piece you are going to struggle to get to the detail here.

We have another cool kit up next, the Command Corps – these surprisingly have a lot of customisation, enough so that if you build two boxes of them you can have the models looking different across the two units.

Like with the rest of the Cities of Sigmar range however these are really gorgeous models that show off just what Games Workshop can put out at the moment. I really hope we see this extended with another wave in the future to replace some of the older Warhamer Fantasy kits that are still in the Age of Sigmar range

Another bonkers release in the Cities of Sigmar range is the Fusil-Major on Ogor Warhulk. I know this one has been very Marmite with the community, but personally like with the Pontifex it has all the AOS madness that I love!

Again, this model has a couple of build options so that you can build it left or right handed with a choice of two different gunners. With the Cities of Sigmar having their unique order mechanic, they have made it quite easy to have multiple of the same hero in your army and for them both to look different, which is ace!

Arriving shortly before this post was written are the Freeguild Fusiliers – I’ve not build these yet, so can’t speak to how they go together, but they look very detailed from the sprues. First impression on these is that you’re probably going to want to keep the shield separate in order to get to the detail behind them. Interestingly they are all arranged together on the sprue meaning it shouldnt be too hard to spray them all a single colour while still on the frame.

And finally we come to the big centre piece model of the range, Tahlia Vedra! I loved this model from the moment I set eyes on her, and feel we need more manticores in Age of Sigmar!

While I’ve not managed to finish painting her, I did make a good start on her Manticore. For this model I would make sure you take your time as there are a few fiddly bits and pieces here and there. For the purpose of painting I kept the entire creature as one piece, and then had the throne and rider separate, as you may struggle to get to the detail if you stick them all together

This is an awesome range of models, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Cities of Sigmar. As I get these painted up I’ll be updating this page – so make sure to stay tuned to the site!
