Warhammer The Horus Heresy Plastic Cerastus Knight Acheron and Castigator Unboxing and Review

During the horrors of The Horus Heresy, entire households of Knights turned from the Master of Mankind and sided with the Warmaster Horus. Brother fought brother, and entire formations of Knight mounted warriors took to the battlefield to fight for the future of the galaxy. Today, the armouries of the Knight Households grows stronger with both the Cerastus Knight Acheron and Cerastus Knight Castigator both up for pre order, and both in plastic for the first time!

In this article we’ll be taking a look at both of these awesome new kits, seeing what is included in the boxes and checking out how they go together (Along with a look at one of the coolest bits of sprue engineering I’ve seen for a long time!)

Massive thanks to Games Workshop for sending us free early review copies to check out on the site! If you would like to support us then why not order your Knights through our affiliate Element Games and save yourself some money off RRP too?

We have also filmed a full unboxing video which you can see just below or over on YouTube

We also recently looked at the Plastic Cerastus Lancer

So let’s check out what is included in each of the kits!

Plastic Cerastus Knight Acheron and Castigator Review

First up we have the Cerastus Knight Acheron, which is the one armed with a massive flamer! This is an iconic Knight, and it’s great to see one in plastic for the first time

And available alongside it is the Knight Castigator wielding a sword and Mega Bolter.

The majority of the kit is actually the same as the Knight Lancer we reviewed recently. Games Workshop have been very clever with their Horus Heresy kits in making them as sprue efficient as possible in order to make releasing varients as simple as simply rereleasing the kit with a different frame included, and that is exactly what they have done with both of these new Cerastus Knights. Like with the Lancer, both kits also include a set of transfer sheets with a variety of heresy era households on show, which is a really nice touch. These transfers include so many details and make it so that you dont have to try and seek out some of the old discontinued sheets from Forge World.

Each kit then has it’s own unique frames that build the weapon variants for that Knight. Above you can see the frames for the Acheron with its massive flamer and and chainsword. You’ll notice that you get a small frame of lots of small parts in order to build the ammo feed for the flamer – no excuse me for a moment while I nerd out a little about this sprue…

This entire piece once assembled is fully flexible! This not only allows you to build the Knight in a variety of poses, with the ammo feed able to flex into whatever position you want in order to accommodate that, but also it means that once you have found the pose that you want, the feed will drop with gravity into a realistic position. It is a little samey to build this section, but it is well worth it for what the flexibility offers and I’m excited to see if Games Workshop look to do something similar with other kits in the future!

Put together, the kit is gorgeous and offers a massive amount of flexibility in assembly. I’ve actually built the legs in a reverse pose compared to the Cerastus Lancer I had previously built in order to mix up the poses across the army – You’re not going to have the issue you can get with 40k Knights were every single model in the army has the same leg pose. In addition to it having pegs for both a right leg forward and a left leg forward pose, you can actually cut the guide pins off the pieces in order to put the legs together in any way you desire. The Pistons actually slide to accommodate the full range of movement that the legs would be able to go through, allowing you to even have it posed as running if you so wish.

For ease of painting the main weapon arm twists off the body, and the armour plates are seperate to make it easier to airbrush them up. I’ll be working on both of these as House Malinax, and will be popping up a painting guide once I’ve painted them!

The Castigator also has a jam packed sprue with it’s unique weapon options along with another sprue that makes up the flexible ammo feed that works in the same way as on the Acheron – you build this up then are free to run the feed in whatever way suits the posing of the model.

Both of these kits are amazing looking and I can’t wait to get them painted up!

We’ll be looking to put together a battle report once the Knights are painted and seeing just how powerful Knights are in the 2nd edition of Warhammer The Horus Heresy, so make sure to stay tuned to the site to see that when it’s live!

Both Knight variants are up for pre order today and are released Saturday 30th September.

Games Workshop sent Sprues and Brews free copies for review purposes.
