Da Red Gobbo’s Tinboy – Unboxing and Review

Da Red Gobbo is back this Christmas, and this time he is bringing his Tinboy! In this full unboxing and review we’ll be checking out the new new festive kit, chatting about how I found building him, and putting the model together to see what it looks like in the flesh!

Massive thanks to Games Workshop for sending us this over early to check out on the site. If you would like to support the site then why not order your Tinboy through our affiliate Element Games and save yourself money too?

We’ve also filmed a full unboxing and review which you can see just below or over on YouTube

So without further ado lets take a look at this year’s festive model!

Da Red Gobbo’s Tinboy

It might seem a little early, but Christmas is on the way! And with it we get this year’s Red Gobbo model. For those who don’t know, every year for the last couple of years Games Workshop have been putting out limited edition Red Gobbo models with a festive theme over the Christmas Period. This year’s is up for pre order today and has a unique theme we’ve not seen before!

This year, Da Red Gobbo is mounted in a Tinboy, pulling a sack of presents and about to chuck some festive dynamite! But what exactly are Tinboys? We’ve not seen them in the game for a while, but these are essentially robots that have been cobbled together by a mek out of whatever junk they have to hand. Back in the day they were actually remote controlled and driven remotely by a Mek (With the original model actually designed to look like a beaky Space Marine!)

It looks like Games Workshop have kept this theme of a robot disguised as something else, with this one having a very Vostroyan theme to it…

The model looks amazing when built up – but I have to admit it was probably the fiddliest xmas model I have built yet. There’s a lot of parts that are tricky to get in the right place and a couple that have to be dry fitted to find just the right location – this is especially true with the legs and arms which are quite spindly and need to be in the right place for the build to work.

That said, once those bits are in location the rest of it goes together really well.

Sadly I ran out of time to paint this one with my desk being filled with the Ultramarine releases for this week – but I’m going to be working on him and will update the article as soon as he is done!

This kit does raise a couple of interesting possibilities for the future of Warhammer 40k however. Firstly, could this be a sign of a Tinboy being a new unit option for Orks? We’ve had them before and Games Workshop seem to be on a real nostalgia kick at the moment. These could have fun models based of various other units with a fun orky take on them! Orks are heavily rumoured to be in the 11th Edition box, so maybe we will get some love for them!

The second potential is the return of the Vostroyan First Born. This is an Astra Militarum regiment that previously had metal models, but recently hasn’t had much of a focus in the game. With the Death Korps of Krieg getting a massive army sized range, there is scope here for Games Workshop to bring back more regiments into the game

The models were very cool and I’d jump all into an army of them if I had the option! Hopefully we see some more teases of them soon…

Da Red Gobbo’s Tinboy is up for pre order now and is released Saturday 8th November
