Deep striking on to the battlefield is cool.
Landing in a huge Drop Pod, which then flings open it’s doors for you to run out screaming FOR THE EMPEROR! is cooler though…
GW have realised this, and have decided to retire the old plastic kit, and replace it with a brand spanking new one.
Our thanks to Games Workshop for sending us the brand new Drop Pod box to unbox and review for you folks. You can nab a box yourself by preording via our affliates over at Element Games. This will save you some cash VS RRP and help us out, as it gives us a little kick back.
Fancy watching me unbox it? Check out the video below!
You can check out the sprues below:
You actually get two Drop Pods in one box, which is very cool (full RRP being £50, so basically £25 a Drop Pod). They come across three sprues. Two are identical and feature the bulk of the pod, with the third being shared between the two.
You get a plethora of bits of rubble and terrain to glue to the doors (which yes, are completely open, no opening/flappy doors on this version). You can, of course, simply choose not to glue any on if you don’t want to.
Having the doors modelled open does help with any rules queries regarding the placement of the doors, giving it a fixed amount of space on the battlefield. Whilst I thought I’d miss the flappy doors, I actually really like this new Drop Pod. It feels like a chunky and substantial vehicle to slam down on the battlefield.
You can check one of them out assembled below:
Our thanks again to Games Workshop for sending us this to unbox and review.
