Whilst we know that a new edition of The Horus Heresy is on the horizon, GW have still found the time to drop some new plastic minis before the Saturnine box arrives from Deep Strike.
Our thanks as always to Games Workshop for sending us these kits to unbox and review. You can save money vs RRP by preordering yours through our affiliates at Element Games, and it’ll massively help us out too
In our article today we look at four boxes:
- Tarantula Sentry Turret
- Tarantula Missile Battery
- Rapier Quad Heavy Bolters and Graviton Cannon Battery
- Rapier Laser Destroyer and Quad Launcher Battery
You can watch our unboxing of all four kits in the video below, and just below that are images of all the Sprues:
Tarantula Sentry Turret / Missile Battery
The Tarantula Sentry Gun comes on just the one Sprue. The best thing about this particular version is that you can interchange its weapon loadout with ease, as they just push on to the main bottom of the turret without any unique parts.
I opted for the Lascannons for the version I’ve painted, but plan to paint the remainder of the weapon options for variety.
The kit is super easy to assemble (I really do mean super easy!). I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do in game.
The missile variant is slightly different in that it’s not as easy to change between the two different missiles. It also does not include any magnet holes, however with a little work you could make the turret so it would be interchangeable.
I decided for both ease and speed I went with the Anti-Air option and just glued them on (but I will be purchasing at least one more box to assemble with the ground missiles).
Again, really easy to assemble with no issues.
Rapier Battery
Moving on to the Rapiers and you’ll notice between the two different boxes you’ll get the same Marines. Outside of conversion you’ll find a couple of different variants here on 2 of them. Very easy to convert though.
I actually found these a little fiddly due to the consoles they are using to control the Rapiers, but it wasn’t too bad.
The second sprue in the box is the Rapiers. This sprue contains the two weapon options (so either Heavy Bolter and Grav Cannons or Laser Destroyer and Volkite) and the platform itself.
I’m not an expert modeller, but in my opinion it would be difficult to make the weapons interchangeable on these. This is due to the make up of the weapons as well as how enclosed they are within the platform. Needless to say mine are all glued together.
These look amazing, I felt like I was painting little mini tanks! Again cannot wait to use these in game.
All four boxes are great additions to the plastic range and I cannot wait to field them with my Iron Warriors!
Our thanks again to GW for sending these to unbox, paint and review!
