T’au Empire | Kroot Wave 2 Unboxing & Review | Warhammer 40,000

Hello and welcome back to another batch of unboxings as we check out the next selection of Kroot models for the T’au Empire for Warhammer 40,000. Fancy picking one, two or all three boxes? Then why not use one of our Element Games affiliate links and bag yourself a discount vs RRP!

I’ve been a big fan of the T’au since they arrived, mainly due to the sleek battlesuits they deploy. Whilst the range was really cool, I never really fell for the original Kroot models. My mind starting to change after the release of the Farstrider Kinband for Kill Team. The real turning point however, was the batch of Kroot models we’ve seen accompanying the new T’au Empire Codex for Warhammer 40k 10th Edition.

Now, the first batch of models were in the great value Kroot Hunting Pack Army Box which also included the Codex. You can check out Jay’s post here which fully covers the box and the Codex. It’s well worth a read/watch!

Up for preorder this morning is the Codex itself on it’s own, the individual release of the models from the Army Box and finally, three other new models, which are the three we are checking out in this post.

  • Trail Shaper
  • Kroot Hounds
  • Lone-spear

We’ve unboxed all three, and you can watch said unboxing below:

Let us take a closer look at each of the new releases one by one:

Our thanks to Games Workshop for sending us these three boxes to unbox for you folks!

Trail Shaper

The first one we are looking at is the Trail Shaper, who is the third type of Shaper you can have in your army.

He’s a leader unit who can be deployed on his own, or attached to a unit of Kroot Carnivores. He grants himself and his unit a cheeky D6″ redeploy following an enemy unit getting too close for comfort. Not only this, but during deployment you can redeploy this model, his attached unit and one other Kroot unit, which includes sending them in to Strategic Reserves. I’ve found during my games in this edition that anything that helps moving is a massive boon for the mission.

He’s a cool model, who gives me old-school Shaper vibes. He’s probably my least favourite of the new Shapers, but I think that just puts an emphasis on how good the other ones are. The sprue sadly does not include any customization, so if you want yours to stand out you’ll have to bust out the clippers and convert.

Kroot Hounds

Yes! Brand new plastic Kroot Hounds!

Now we did get one in the Farstrider Kinband, but now we have a proper unit of new Hounds in plastic. They are nice minis, perhaps not the most dynamic, but a great looking unit nonetheless.

They have two cool abilities. The first being they can Advance and Charge, so long as they are within 6″ of a Kroot unit. Secondly, they gain an extra pip of Objective Control should they be within 12″ of a Kroot character, making them a great little scoring unit!

Again, no customization on these. Very few parts so should be super easy to assemble.

Lone-spear

Finally, we have the coolest model from this wave, in my opinion anyway!

First and foremost, they have the Stealth and Lone Operative keywords, which make perfect sense for this model. You can build the Kroot sat on top with either a Throwing Spear / Javelin, which can be used during the Shooting and Combat phase, or the Sniper Rifle (which I think is my favourite build). So long as they hit their target they grant other Kroot units full re-rolls to hit on said unit. Finally, they can move again after shooting. Movement abilities are so good in this edition!

I kind of wish this model was actual a unit, rather than just a singular model, but he is super-cool nonetheless.

Aside from the weapon variation the only other customization is the head on the Lizard / Chameleon, it can be placed in two different positions.

That wraps up this look at the last models to arrive following the new Codex. I think their will be a lot more Kroot on the tabletop very soon, and we’ll see some new fantastic army lists featuring either Kroot exclusively or as part of a hybrid T’au force.

Our thanks again to Games Workshop for sending us these to unbox and review.
