Last year me and a friend of mine set ourselves a goal of painting more kill teams / warcry warbands because we were simply tired of playing games with unpainted models especially when you consider that some only have a handful of models, we agreed that every two months we would paint a new kill team / warcry warband so that we would motivate ourselves to paint more and play more games.

This did work really well I painted up three kill teams and three warcry warbands which meant that I achieved my hobby goal of painting six teams / warbands over the coarse of the year, now jumping into this new year I want to do more hobby orientated content for the website and these challenges are perfect for that.

So what are the rules ?

To change things up and to stay motivated I will be randomly determining a kill team or warcry warband from my backlog ( to save some money and why buy more when I have models to paint ? ) every month alternating between kill team and warcry by rolling a dice and comparing it to the chart below :

I will start January with a kill team and then alternate to a warcry war band in February etc… this way by the end of the year I should have six new kill teams and six new warcry warbands painted which would be amazing. I’m setting myself the aims of :

  • Building a kill team / warcry warband.
  • Painting the team ( base coats and washes minimum ).
  • Finishing the bases for all models.
  • Building a terrain piece.
  • Painting that terrain piece.

Now I should specify that for kill team I am aiming for a minimum kill team roster not a full 20 model roster and for warcry I want a 1,000 point warband so both are legal for games, as I’m writing this I have bought a ticket to a warcry event at Warhammer World in April which works out nicely as April will be a warcry month.

On to the first months team then …. rolls dice on table …. dice somehow ends up on floor …. rolls again and the result is ???

Hierotek Circle

Oh man this team has been in my backlog for a while so it’s a good one to do first, I will do my update on how I get on with my progress at the beginning of every month, the day depending on life of course and hopefully this will motivate myself and some of you wonderful readers to get painting some kill teams / warcry warbands.

  1. Sounds like an amazing way to get through the backlog, especially tying in to getting to play with the fully painted warbands! I may need to copy this idea, as I’ve been into Warcry since the beginning, but still only have one fully painted warband for the game! 🫠

  2. Kill Team is fun but still a tad complicated for what I want for a casual game- how do you findf swapping between teams so much? In terms of keeping track of things…?

    Pete.

    1. I find writing a cheat sheet for the teams I play helps a lot, including strategic ploys, special rules etc all on one page means I do not have to flick through books all the time and to keep things simple sometimes I will take regular troops over specialists so again there are less things I have to remember. Sometimes it’s worth having a chat with your opponent especially if you are both casual players and just say ” hey lets not worry about equipment or lets not use X, Y or Z” will also help keep things casual.

      1. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tips.

        Cheers,

        Pete.
