It’s been fairly busy around these parts, what with the launch of a brand new edition of Warhammer 40,000 and a massive box of plastic goodies called Leviathan

But it’s time to turn our attention to Age of Sigmar, as we catch up with the issues of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Stormbringer, a Hachette Partworks magazine series. Matt did a full comprehensive run-through if the cost of the full series of issues, and how much value was to be had compared to RRP at this link right here.

We had a closer look at the first two issues a little while back, and Matt worked out the value of these.

With this post we’ll be taking a quick peek at what gifts have arrived with each issue, as well as a value comparison if you purchase just the one issue vs the RRP. Whilst for the purposes of this article I’m purely looking at the models vs RRP, don’t forget, the magazines are also full of handy information about the Mortal Realms, stories, learning to play articles, etc.

Following this post we’ll be unboxing the magazines as they arrive, including a detailed look at what’s inside the magazine and of course a closer look at the sprues and paints.

When looking at the value part of each issue, bear in mind each issue costs £8.99. Also to bear in mind, I’m comparing all prices to Games Workshop’s own webstore. Third party sites, such as Element Games, may be cheaper.

Issue 3

Arriving with this issue was a set of 5 Vindictors, the first battleline unit for the Stormcast Eternals.

Value: GW only sells them in units of 5 at £35, so let’s call it £17.50.

Saving: £8.51

Issue 4

Whilst not having any miniatures, this issue came with 4 solid paints which you’ll get plenty of use out of. The four colours in question are Leadbelcher, Retributor Gold, Orruk Flesh and Kantor Blue. Oh, you also get a handy Starter Brush too.

Value: Pots of GW paint come in at £2.75. You cannot buy a Starter Brush outside of paint sets, so let’s price this as a small base brush, which is £5.70.

Saving: £7.67

Issue 5

Now this is cool. Issue 5 comes with the magazine series exclusive model, the Praetor Prime for the Stormcast. She’s in a standing pose, helmet under arm, ready to lead her unit of Praetors into the fray. I really like this model, and fits in with the rest of the unit. Note she is a unit leader, rather than a character.

Value: She’s exclusive, so you cannot pick her up anywhere else. Standard clam pack heroes tend to be around £25, so let’s run with that.

Saving: £16.01

Issue 6

With the Stormcast side of proceedings getting a lead in the old model department at this stage, it’s good to see some Destruction units arriving. This issue includes 10 of the little Hobgrotz Slittaz.

Value: GW sells the Hobgrots in boxes of 20, so again we’ll have to halve this, putting the 10 minis at £17.50.

Saving: £8.51

Issue 7

The first disappointing issue. This one just comes with a pot of Corax White and Catachan Flesh.

Value: At £2.75 each, the value of just the paint comes up to £5.50

Saving: Sadly no saving here, +£3.49

Issue 8

Back to models, and in this issue we get another Stormcast hero in the shape of the Lord Impertant and his trusty Gryph-hound. One of my favourite Stormcast hero models when it comes to looks. You also get a medium STC base brush too, which is much better at detail work than your Starter Brush.

Value: You cannot buy this mini outside of the starter sets, so again we’ll price at £25. As for the brush, they cost £4.85.

Saving: £20.86

Issue 9

Time for another Krulboyz hero (or two). This magazine includes the very cool Swampcalla Shaman and his Pot-Grot.

Value: Yet another model not available outside of the big box. Let’s go again for £25.

Saving: £16.01

Issue 10

Warhammer Underworlds players may already have the contents of this issue, as you get Xandire’s Truthseekers. A nice little warband that, like all Warhammer Underworlds warbands, includes rules for Age of Sigmar. A great unit to paint, even if the unit is a tad pricey points-wise in full games of Sigmar.

Value: Underworlds warbands cost £25.

Saving: £16.01

Issue 11

It’s Artillery time! The Beast-Skewer Killbow for the Kruleboyz comes in this issue. A superb mini.

Value: £22.50

Saving: £13.51

Issue 12

I was really looking forward to this issue, as you get the Stormstrike Chariot. A fantastic mini with a different weapon options. A fast Stormcast unit perfect for grabbing objectives or hurtling down the flanks!

Value: £32.50

Saving: £23.51. So far the biggest saving yet.

Issue 13

Another paint issue. Two pots again with this one. Mephiston Red and Wraithbone.

Value: 2.85 per pot.

Saving: Again, no saving on this paint only issue, meaning the magazine on it’s own costs £3.49 more.

Issue 14

To run alongside your Killbow, how about a unit of Man-Skewer Boltboyz? I love this unit and would take them in every Kruleboyz and Big WAAGGH list!

Value: £32.50, with the caveat that the retail box has more variety on the sprue.

Saving: £23.51

Issue 15

This issue includes 3 x Stormcast Praetors. These come with the option to make one as a Prime, but don’t forget you’ve got an exclusive Prime from earlier in the series!

Value: You cannot buy these in a retail store, so I’m going to price these as per the above Bolt-boyz.

Saving: £23.51

Issue 16

This issue includes scenery for the first time! You get some really cool skeleton pieces, from long dead creatures in the Mortal Realms.

Value: This is super hard to value, as you cannot buy these on their own, and I don’t really know what scenery is out there to compare it with at retail. The Timeworn Ruins set includes scatter scenery for Age of Sigmar, and that is priced at £37.50, so I’ll tentatively put it at that, but I actually think you’d spend less than this.

Saving (Questionable) £28.51

Issue 17

Another paint only issue. This one includes Abbadon Black and the best shade out there, Agrax Earthshade.

Value: Again, £2.85 per pot

Saving: +£3.49

Issue 18

Another Warhammer Underworlds warband, only this time for Destruction! Da Kunnin’ Krew are a Kruleboyz warband that originally came in one of the Underworlds Starter Boxes. A very varied and fun set of minis.

Value: £25

Saving: £16.01

Issue 19

For Sigmar! This issue includes a special hero, hailing from the Hallowed Knights stormhost. It is of course Gardus Steel Soul, a model I’ve nearly picked up a few times for my upcoming Hallowed Knight force.

Value: £25

Saving: £16.01

Issues 20 & 21

So, for this next entry I’ve put both issues 20 and 21. This is because the model included within these issues is split across both. It is the Marshcrawla Sloggoth. One spure comes with one issue, whilst the other and the base comes in the next one.

Value: £35

Saving: Bearing in mind you’ll need to buy two issues, you’ll still save £17.02

Premium Issue 1

If, like me, you subscribed to the Premium tier, then by now you’ll have received your first Premium model, and what a model it is…

It’s a big dragon for the Stormcast Eternals, Krondys, Son of Dracothion (or alternatively you can build it as Karazai the Scarred.

Value: Now this one is going to take a little maths. Unlike the standard issues of the magazine, you pay £2 extra each issue which over the course of the magazine run gives you 4 premium deliveries. The first is this one, second Gordrakk (Orruk Warclans), third a Grundstok Gunhauler with a Navigator and Skywardens (Kharadron Overlords) and finally a Dankhold Troggoth with 3 Rockgut Troggoths (Gloomspite Gitz). For the run of the series that means you’ll have paid £158 for all 4 of those. If we divide that into 4 we get £39.50 per premium delivery.

At retail Krondys is £100.

Saving: A whopping £60.50!

Phew! And that is us caught up with the current issues of Stormbringer. From here out we will be unboxing, valuing and writing an article for each delivery of issues.

Now…I just need to get them all built and painted….
