** UPDATE – Henry Cavill now confirmed!** Games Workshop Confirm to be Working with Amazon for Film and TV Productions
Exciting news today! Games Workshop have confirmed via their investor page that they have entered into an agreement in principle with Amazon to create films and television productions! We assume these will be showing via Amazon Prime Video and this is a massive first step towards us seeing some live action Warhammer content! The press release states the initial focus is Warhammer 40,000!
Now just to set people’s expectations, this is an agreement in principle and it sounds like it hasn’t all been contractually agreed yet – though fingers crossed it does soon!
There have also been rumours circulating that Henry Cavill, Hollywood star and massive Warhammer fan is in talks to star in this – however we have been unable to confirm these rumours at this time – but I think we can all agree that would be amazing!
UPDATE – Games Workshop have confirmed that Henry Cavill is involved both to star in the show and as Executive Producer!
We have been waiting for some time for updates on the Eisenhorn live action show, so could this perhaps be something that is picked up under the Amazon partnership?
Below is the full press release from Games Workshop, we’ll share more news as soon as we have it!
Games Workshop is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement in principle with Amazon Content Services LLC, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., (“Amazon”) for Amazon to develop Games Workshop’s intellectual property into film and television productions and for Games Workshop to grant Amazon associated merchandising rights.
In advance of contracts being entered into, Amazon will be commencing certain development activities (such as holding preliminary discussions with writers) in order to facilitate the project. It is intended that rights will initially be granted to develop the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Whilst the parties have reached agreement on material commercial terms, the project is wholly dependent on and subject to contracts being agreed and entered into, which the parties are working towards.
The Company makes no change to its forecast for the period ended May 2023.
A further announcement will be made in due course
