It’s been a little while since the original Warcrow Winds From the North set was launched – We checked it out in our full review and unboxing and found it to be a brilliant introduction into the world of Warcrow, the new game from Corvus Belli, the creators of Infinity.
One thing that is always something that can hold back new games is a lack of factions – if you’re not into armoured humans or Orcs then then you might not have had your head turned by the initial starter box for Warcrow.
With Song of the Dormant, up for pre order now that changes!

This new set contains 14 brand new miniatures from two factions that are introduced to the game
First of all we have the priestesses, knights, and guisarmiers of Feudom

These have a much different aesthetic from the Hegemony of Embersig seen in the original starter, and have more of a high fantasy look with an impresssive looking Priestess model alongside some great infantry with pikes and low helmets that cover their faces. These contrast really nicely from the feel of the original human faction, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they look like in the flesh!
The other half of the box really excites me though, the Scions.

These are former elves who have been embraced by the fog and have given themselves over to magic, resulting in them being warped and twisted beings enhanced in both body and mind. There’s a really nice “evil” vibe to these, and I think there’s lots of fun stuff that can be done from a paint scheme on these to capture their magical essence – I’m really looking forward to seeing what follows this as a range!
So what else is in the box?
Set in the vivid fantasy realm of Lindwurm, Song of the Dormant expands the core Warcrow setting with a mythic, lore-rich storyline centered around the mysterious Wheel of Mathalazz – an ancient artifact capable of awakening forgotten powers.

We were really impressed with the campaign booklet in the original Warcrow box, and it looks that in Song of the Dormant we’re also getting another narrative campaign booklet filled with awesome branching scenarios and lore for the new factions. We found the first one to be a great way of learning how to play the game, so I’m expecting a similar situation here too

There’s also a whole host of additional components such as a play mat, terrain and tokens giving you everything you need to start playing games of Warcrow
We really enjoyed our games of Warcrow, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the new starter set holds! Having two new factions here is the most exciting thing for me, as it gives players a lot more flavour across the miniatures – and those new magic-mutated Elves really appeal to me!
Warcrow Song of the Dormant is up for pre order right now and is released at the end of August.
