Horus Heresy Unboxings | Arvus Lighter, Malcador Infernus, Valdor Tank Destroyer and Deredo Dreadnought with Boreas Missles
It is a big big weekend for the Horus Heresy, in particular if you have or have been tempted by a Solar Auxilia army (or at least some allies!).
So what is up for preorder right now? Well, for the Solar Auxilia we have the first plastic flier for the Heresy in the Arvus Lighter. Then their is the same case of two massive tanks, the Malcador Infernus and the Valdor Tank Destroyer.
Alternatively, if you have an army of Loyalist or Traitor Marines, then your head may be tuned by the Boreas Air Defense variant of the Deredeo Dreadnought (and the weapon sprues are also up for preorder too).
Games Workshop have been kind enough to send us all four kits to unbox and review for you folks, and it’s been a pleasure doing just that! If following this article and the included videos you are tempted to add one to your collection then why not preorder them from Element Games via one of our affiliate links, such as this one right here. Not only will you save some cash Vs RRP, but you’ll also be doing us a favour!
Without further ado, let’s tackle each of these vehicles one by one!
Arvus Lighter Unboxing
Let’s kick things off with the first (of hopefully many!) plastic flyers for Warhammer Horus Heresy.
You can watch the unboxing below:
I was really excited to unbox this one, as it’s such a cute little transport! It’s so iconic too of the Heresy.
When it comes to assembly, I had a lot of fun building this thing. It has some of the most detailed interior I’ve seen in a plastic kit as well, even down to giving you the option to have the seats for the troops up or down. There is also a little screen above each of the seats. If I had the time and patience I’d have loved to have painted it all!
Speaking of painting, I managed to paint the Arvus too. I used this as the perfect chance to try modelling tape and put stripes down the side of each of the wings. I really enjoyed painting it, and took advantage of the included, brand new, Aeronautica transfers.
It’s a fantastic little flyer, and can totally see myself preordering a couple more…
Malcador Infernus Unboxing
Love the Malcador tank? How about one with a huge flamer running along it? Well, that’s what you get with the Infernus! You can watch me unbox it below:
This actually took longer than I expected to assemble. It includes a fair number of parts. It wasn’t a difficult build, rather the opposite, it just takes a little while!
The little tank of fuel that is pulled behind the tank has made the jump from the Forge World resin version to this new plastic version. It is attached by a little connector piece of plastic, which is a nice snug fit. You can even check out how it works below:
I like the fact that all the little additions, such as the Searchlight, Hunter Killer and Flare Shield are all on one sprue, which is included with other Solar Aux tanks (including the Valdor which we come to soon).
It was a really fun build and has satisfying to paint, and I cannot wait to get this Lord of War on the battlefield.
Valdor Tank Destroyer Unboxing
Flame tanks are cool, however maybe you want something that can punch more of a hole into another vehicle? And by hole I mean the Channel Tunnel… The Valdor Tank is for you!
Equipped with a huge Neutron Laser, this thing is awesome. I’ve unboxed it below:
Want to take a peek at the sprues? Here ya go:
Whilst similar to the Infernus, this one felt like it was a lot quicker to assemble.
Due to the Neutron Laser needing so much power, you’ll spot that you only have one side sponson, as the other side is taken up by a power generator for the laser.
Deredeo Dreadnought with Boreas Configuration
It isn’t all about the Solar Auxilia, as the Deredeo is back with a new variety of weapons!
The standout part of this particular version of the Deredeo is the Boreas Missile rack sat on top of the dread. You also get a choice of weapon arms, choosing between Lascannons or Volkite. Only the best bit is you don’t really have to choose, as the weapons are a snug fit meaning you can switch them. Every weapon magnet slots for super easy magnetization. You do really need the magnets for the power packs for the Lascannons as mine keeps falling off…
Note you can also magnetise the Heavy Bolters/Flamers underneath the main body of the dread, however I glued mine.
You also get a choice of body panels. I went with the Traitor/Chaos one, however you also have a Loyalist version, as well as a ‘blank’ one.
The Deredeo is a little marmite with some folks, but I really like it. It wasn’t a super fan assembly process mind, as I feel it comes with more parts than it needs to have. You do need to take your time when assembling one, so be patient!
Summary
In short, the Heresy has just had some fantastic reinforcements, in particular if you like the Solar Auxilia like me. I cannot wait to paint the Valdor and the Deredeo.
All of these kits are well made, and are fun to build (well, maybe not the Deredeo). The instructions and sprues are so well marked and displayed now it really does make hobbying so much easier.
Following painting the Arvus and the Infernus I’m now super fired up to paint my full Solar Aux force, bring them on!
