January is finally over and pay day has come but more importantly so does the first hobby goal update for 2024, I had a feeling that this years goals were going to be more of a slow burn than a hit the ground running kind of year which is very apparent in my goals as you can see below.

I started January off by painting Venom for Marvel Crisis Protocol which is a model that I have been wanting to paint for a very long time but has proven to be quite hard to get a hold off as it always seems to be sold out, painting wise he was super quick I started by priming him mechanicus grey and then gave him a few thin coats of corvus black after which I lightly dry brushed him dawnstone then applied a nuln oil wash and that was about 85% of the model complete. The white pattern on the front and back I did consider painting on in layers to make them really stand out but the dawnstone drybrush had already done most of that work for me so I then dry brushed the pattern with a white and that was basically the model done.

I also managed to get the Hierotek Circle done for kill team which needless to say painting those models has reinvigorated my love of necron’s so we might see them pop up again in another hobby goal update. Painting both the Hierotek Circle and Venom brought my total of painted models this year to 10 which I can keep the pace I should paint 100 models by October (I’m hoping to smash that a lot sooner ).

I managed to get down to Warhammer World for the Old World open day on the 20th which was very busy to say the least but I was able to pick up the Tomb King army box and I have started building some of the many… many skeletons which will form the backbone of a 2,000 point army.

Last but not least I helped run a Warhammer 40k one day event for my local club the Purple Sparkly Unicorns which had 26 players playing 40k with a large variety of armies in attendance, I’m not counting this event as one of my four events to go to as I didn’t play in it but we are running an Age of Sigmar event in a couple of weeks which I will be playing in and it’s my first Age of Sigmar event since last April so I am very much looking forward to it.

And with that that brings this hobby goal update to an end by next month I’m aiming to =

  • Paint at least one more model for Marvel Crisis Protocol.
  • Finish an audiobook.
  • Paint up a warcry war band.

Thankfully I have about 10 models in my backlog for Marvel Crisis Protocol so the hard part will be picking which model to paint, as for audiobooks I still have a couple from lockdown in 2020 that I started but never finished listening to like the Dante audiobook, wish me luck.
