Exclusive Reveal! Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Post Apocalyptic Expansion
We have some exciting news to share today with you ahead of Games Workshop’s preview seminar on Saturday! A new expansion to Warhammer Age of Sigmar is on the way – Post Apocalyptic!
We caught up with Ben from the studio to find out more about this upcoming expansion!
S&B: Hi Ben, how’s it going? What can you tell us about the new Warhammer Age of Sigmar expansion?
Ben: Hi guys, I’m good thanks! Well we can’t share too many details yet, but Post Apocalyptic combines two things fans of Warhammer have been crying out for – a way to play games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar remotely, and a mechanism allowing all behemoths to be taken as a battleline choice! We’re really excited to see what the community does with this new set!
S&B: Wow – that sounds great! So how does the remote play work?
Ben: Well this is the big thing we have been working on for some time as a way to allow people to have games of Warhammer even if they are not at the same table! You could play a full game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar against someone at the other end of the country, or even on the other side of the world! Each player sets up an identical battlefield following one of the preset deployment maps out of the Post Apocalyptic rulebook, then each player deploys their army in secret – as their opponent isn’t even in the same room this adds the excitement and realism of the fog of war to your games of Warhammer! After each phase, the active player then posts their opponent details of what has happened through the mail, ready for them to counteract their actions in return.
S&B: That sounds a big change for a game that is traditionally played together with armies consisting of multiple miniatures, precise measurements and lots of dice rolls!
Ben: Yeah it is, but that’s where the new Stormpost starter box comes in! This set contains everything you need for your remote playing needs! We had multiple members of the stationery community come in to the studio to help us with what would come in the starter set, and I think you will be excited to see what we managed to fit in there!
S&B: We can’t wait to see it! Can you share any details of what is contained in the Stormpost box?
Ben: Well, the set contains a pad of Blood-Letters – this is what you write your turn by turn actions on in order to let your opponent know what you have done that battle round. You also get a set of exclusive envelopes covered in artwork from the Mortal Realms – As soon as your opponent gets their post they will know it’s for a game of Warhammer! Finally you get the full Post Apocalyptic rule book giving you all the supplemental content for running these games by mail! Oh, we are also going to have a special edition version containing 12 limited edition White Dwarf 1st Class Stamps! It seems a shame to actually use these to post a letter, I think I’m going to keep mine in my collection!
S&B: That sounds amazing! Are there any other new rules in the set you can tell us about?
Ben: One of the changes I’m most excited about is the ability to take any Behemoth as Battleline! We also have some special warscroll battalions that also allow you to take multiple named characters as battleline – If you are playing a big enough game you could take an army of Nagash’s if you wanted!
S&B: That seems… a little broken.. What’s the reasoning behind this change?
Ben: Well Behemoths are ace! ‘Nuff said!
S&B: Before we go, we always like to ask a couple of questions to everyone we chat to – What’s your favourite sprue, and what’s your favourite brew?
Ben: Well for sprue it would have to be Archaon, especially as I’m currently building an army with 5 of them for use in games of Post Apocalyptic. As for brew, that’s an easy one – a tea made from the tears of my fallen enemies
Thanks Ben! Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Post Apocalyptic is out on the 31st April for £29.99 – We’ll be back with an unboxing as soon as we have our hands on it!
Looks like the perfect product to release right now, exactly today where world events coincide with a perfect date for us to play games remotely.
